ESP Mail Check 2.02

  • Checking For New POP3 Email
ESP Mail Check works just like a POP3 email client in that it uses the standard POP3 protocol to connect to your POP3 mail server and check for new email. You should enter the same settings that you use for your email client (such as Outlook Express or Netscape Mail) into the Options dialog in ESP Mail Check. The vital information that you need to know to check mail on your POP3 server is your:

    Username
    Password
    POP3 Server Name
      e.g. joe
    e.g. joespassword
    e.g. pop.someserver.com

  • Checking For New Web-based Email
Checking for new mail on a Web-based email service is quite different from checking for new mail on a POP3 server. Unlike POP3, there is no standard protocol to interact with a web server (such as Hotmail.) The way it works is that ESP Mail Check retrieves the text from the web server and parses the text for the number of new messages that you have. All Web-based email services are not alike. Their pages do not all display the same information and this has to be hard-coded into the program. If the Web-based email service changes the way their page is layed out, then ESP Mail Check will have to be modified as well. If you suspect that your Web-based email service has changed their page and ESP Mail Check no longer functions correctly, please contact us at
support@essoftware.com and we will make the appropriate modifications in our program.

Troubleshooting

Problem   Solution
Some users have reported that ESP Mail Check invokes a dial-up session even if 'Connect to the Internet if not already connected' is not selected.   February 7, 1999
We are currently working to fix this problem.

Some users have reported the following error when they try to open the options dialog from the tray icon menu:
"Run-Time Error '440': Automation Error"
  February 12, 1999
We are currently working to fix this problem. It seems that this bug only affects those that do not have IE 4.0 installed.
* A temporary fix is to delete the espmc.ini file or get the latest
DCOM from Microsoft.
